Dances with Bronies: Day 44 - I've been derped

I can’t focus. I’m trying to work, I mean, I’m at work so of course I’m trying to work. While I may usually go through tv shows like water, this is something special. I usually write or read something when I take a break at work. I’m desperately trying to read the torrent of information spilling forth from the release of Max Payne and I’m struggling to finish my long gestating modern survival horror games article because ponies.

So. Many. Fucking. Ponies.

I get. Oh I fucking get it. This show is awesome. It’s unabashedly happy. It’s absolutely adorable. There’s a certain magic about it that I don’t think I’ve ever seen in a show. I would rather see the next new episode of My Little Pony over anything else right now (except Community) because I can’t help but watch the show with a giant smile on my face.

It’s not just the show either, it’s the fans. I was anticipating the episode in which they actually refer to the fan named character Derpy aloud. They even gave Derpy simply sounding voice to match her perpetual crossed eyes and name. Not only did the creators of the show name this character after the fan name, they made it a game of putting Derpy in episodes as a sort of where’s waldo type game. The fan influenced characters like Doctor Whooves and DJ Pon-3 make me so excited when they appear.

This show should be a much bigger phenomenon then it already is. As much as I hear people worried about the next generation, I can’t see anything wrong with a generation raised on My Little Pony and Adventure Time. The generation raised on Transformers and Gem turned out fine, now it’s time for them to direct their children in the right direction.
